We’re back in Jakarta today, as #TeamAdAsia sits down for a chat with Chrissela. She tells us about how keeping an open mind can make all the difference in the world, and keen readers will notice a cultural trend in the Indonesia office:
Hi everyone! My name is Chrissela, but you can call me Sela for short. I’ve been with AdAsia Holdings since March 2017, and it has grown so much since then. I actually graduated from university with a major in Marketing Communications, something unrelated to my role now. I took a chance at the time, but I know I made the right choice. I really love it here!
My childhood dream was actually to be a tour guide, because even at that young age I was fascinated with traveling and exploring new places. When I was in my teens, I also wanted to have my own clothing line and run my own business. This was mainly because I always found it hard to find clothes that were to my liking! ?
Of course, my current role in Advertiser Engagement isn’t quite the same as either of my childhood dream jobs, but it’s an amazing job in its own right. For one, I have many opportunities to travel, meet new people and learn new things.
Speaking of learning new things, the company always encourages us to read widely to stay on top of the latest developments in this fast-moving industry. We even have an internal training programme, AdAsia University, where subject matter experts present various parts of our business and the industry, and everyone is always welcomed to take part.
Also, as you may remember from previous blogposts featuring other members of the ID team, there’s a very strong familial atmosphere in the Jakarta office. I know I can count on my colleagues for anything, and that sense of security provides me with the perfect foundation and environment to grow as a professional!
Being a part of the Advertiser Engagement team, I meet new people all the time. That’s a perk of the job in itself as I’ve had the opportunity to get to know many interesting people. To be able to have fruitful discussions, communication skills are far and away the most important thing! We’re always talking to people, whether they be colleagues or clients or vendors. That said, as long as you treat everyone with trust and respect, things tend to go well! Keep an open mind and an open heart, and everything flows easier ?
Mind you, I wasn’t a natural at this. I didn’t step into the company already capable of effectively communicating with everyone. This confidence and ability is something that I’ve learned and polished over the past few months, largely from all the opportunities I’ve been given to interact with a very diverse range people.
This has also broadened my horizons a lot; remember what I said about keeping an open mind? Meeting and getting to know people from so many different backgrounds has really showed me new perspectives on life, not to mention the various kinds of concerns and solutions that clients think about when it comes to digital marketing and advertising.
It may have been challenging at first, diving into the world of digital and sales, but whenever I look back over the past nine months I’ve been here, I always feel surprised and impressed with how far I’ve come. There’s always more to learn though, so I’m not about to rest on my laurels!
Speaking of resting, I do have my leisure pursuits too. You know what they say about all work and no play, after all. I like to pamper myself with some ‘me time’ at the salon or spa, and with friends, I enjoy checking out new restaurants because food is my first love. I have a sweet tooth too, so dessert is a must! ?
Looking ahead, I look forward to learning more about this ever-evolving world of digital. AI, for example, is playing an increasingly essential role. There’ll always be something new to discover!
Speaking of discovering, I would love to work overseas in the future. It’ll allow me to really immerse myself in a whole new culture, learning a new way of life and maybe even a new language!
Most importantly though, all I can really ask for is to continue making my parents happy and proud of me ?
Thanks for reading, and I wish you all a great day ahead!
