#TeamAdAsia: Charlene Kuo (Senior Executive, Advertiser Engagement)

2017.08.31

Lest you forget, we have a presence in Taiwan too! This week on #TeamAdAsia, we talk to Charlene, an avid Game of Thrones fan, semi-Aussie (in spirit), and someone who just wants to make the world around her a little better.

Hello folks! I’m Charlene, saying hi from the Taiwan office. My closer friends have given me several nicknames, such as Avochardo (because avocados are awesome), or Charmander (because I’m a fire-breathing dragon. GoT, GoT, GoT!). I grew up in Taiwan, but moved to Sydney, Australia, after high school. I stayed there for over six years and as you’ll see with some of my interests, I grew to really love Oz.

Reach Out, Touch Base

I’ve always been someone who enjoys public speaking or being up on stage. I mean, when I was young I wanted to be a news anchor or a TV show host! I think this stems from me wanting to reach out to people, and to be able to touch their lives. Make a kind of positive difference, you know?

Although it’s not quite as high-profile as being on TV, I feel that my current job kind of allows me to make that kind of difference. As part of the Advertiser Engagement team, regardless of the client or the scale of campaign they have in mind, it always comes down to helping them solve the problems that they are most concerned with. When you have fewer problems, you’re happier, right? ?  So that’s my way of making a positive difference.

Horizons and Collaborations

Personally, I feel that the best part of working in AdAsia Holdings is how international it is, and how collaborative the different offices are. Having the chance to work with so many people from all over the region, and learning the ways different markets work, really widens my perspective greatly which is something I’m always looking to do.

In my free time, I enjoy a nice cuppa. A flat white does the trick every time! Remember Australia? It’s a coffee-crazy nation, and I grew my love for coffee in my time there. In fact, a dream of mine is to open a cafe studio, a place where people can come to relax, host creative workshops, and drink top-notch coffee. ☕

Aside from coffee, I love hiking too! The exploration factor is great, but the views are the absolute best. Doesn’t matter if it’s mountain peaks, waterfalls, lakes; it’s all good. The fresh air of nature soothes my mind and the hiking itself gets the heart pumping and the endorphins flowing. I feel at one with the world during a good hike.

Opening Eyes

Looking ahead, my goal is to keep widening my personal horizons. I would love to get the chance to work overseas in the future, as I think working and living in different cities will provide me with fresh insight into how this world works.

It helps that this company is so diverse; I get lots of little snapshots into life around the region! And believe me, although we are all conveniently grouped together under ‘Southeast Asia’ or ‘East Asia’, the countries and their local customs couldn’t be any more different from each other. Every day is another chance to open my eyes to more of what this world offers its inhabitants.

Thanks for reading! I’ll share one of my favourite quotes with you guys:

“The rest of your life will be the best of your life.”

As long as you do your best, everything will work out just fine.

Peace out!
